Several weeks ago, I discovered Hutterite beans. I wrote about the beans here, and then I ordered some online. A few weeks went by, and I was starting to get impatient for my beans! Well, the beans have finally arrived, and I decided to post some pictures of them on the blog. Here is a shot of all the beans:
As you can see, I didn't just order Hutterite beans - I also ordered Borlotti, Christmas Lima, Cargamanto Cranberry, Lila, Vallarta, and Yellow Eye beans. I realize that this may seem a bit excessive, but the shipping costs for one pound of beans was pretty high, and it didn't cost any more to ship eight pounds of beans than it did to ship one pound, so I decided to order a few extra varieties. The beans are all heirlooms, I believe, and I bought them through Rancho Gordo. The Christmas Lima beans are especially interesting; they look like sea shells. Here is a picture:
And here is a picture of the Yellow Eyes, another favorite of mine:
I hope these beans taste as good as they look! I will be sure to provide a full report.
Finally, here is a picture of Jill and me after our bean photography session (it is Jill's day off, and we are both unkempt):
Have a great week! And God bless.
Love the pics, will keep an eye out for the report...how expensive are they?
ReplyDeleteJust checked out the website, looks pretty good! They have lots of recipes too...will check it out more later. :) If you have favorite recipes I hope you will post them :oP
DeleteI will do that Susan. And as you may have seen, the beans aren't too expensive - many varieties are about $8 a pound. I have found a few other websites that seel heirloom beans, but none were selling Hutterite beans at the time I placed my order with Rancho Gordo, so I went with them. I am sure that the other sellers are reliable too.
DeleteI wish I had a garden and green thumb, I'd want to plant some of them :)
DeleteI understand about heirloom non-GMO seeds and the fact that they are better for you, and they also would be easier to use for planting in a garden. Sigh...
Actually, the beans are quite pretty.
ReplyDeleteThanks DL. I think so too.
DeleteIt's so nice to "see" you two.
ReplyDeleteThe beans are gorgeous as well. We planted some heirloom popcorn last year and it is just so much more beautiful that the store stuff. Almost too pretty to eat!
