Beethoven's Triple Concerto

It is often said that Beethoven's triple concerto is underrated. I can't verify that statement myself; I am a fan of classical music, but I don't know much about the world of classical music, and I can't say how popular the piece is with musicians, critics, or classical music enthusiasts. However, I can say that the piece is sublime. The recording with Oistrakh, Rostropovich, and Richter is superb, and I have listened to it many times, but I recently found a live recording of the piece that I enjoy just as much, if not more. It features Yo-Yo Ma on cello, Itzhak Perlman on violin, and Daniel Barenboim on piano. (Barenboim also conducts.) Here is the second movement:

I think that this would make a classical music fan out of anyone.

  1. Beautiful, Leslie. Yo-Yo Ma is such an interesting man (prodigy). When he plays it seems every fiber of his being pours into the music he plays.

    1. Agreed. He is a fine musician, but he also seems like a fine man. I have seen a number of interviews with him, and he seems kind, warm, and generous.
